Big Data Hadoop Apex App for device to mobile, GPS tracking with DataTorrent

Abstract:

It is a challenge to implement scalable IoT applications. One has to work with varied devices, infrastructures, protocols and machine standards. Developers face the heat while creating any such application within stringent deadlines. Moreover, even after managing to create such an application that manages a complex data flow, developers face an uphill battle of optimizing the tech infrastructure and eventually the code. At DataTorrent, we have successfully built a complex GPS tracking application within a period of 2 months that provides performance of two-digit millisecond latency. It was achieved by using ready functional operators available in Apex Malhar with some customization. Like in most other IoT data pipelines, this GPS tracking application receives data from GPS enabled devices via TCP/IP protocol. The application identifies the type of event and ensures that relevant information is conveyed to customers – to tackle all issues almost in real-time (sub 50 ms). Furthermore, the DT application helps developers to monitor different viable metrics such as device failure, battery drainage as well as erratic behavior from devices. At the same time, we also developed the capability to serve responsive web-apps along with WebSocket based real-time updates to web/mobile clients. This helped to further optimize cost. In today's webinar, we will provide an overview of the application along with components and open up the DT application for immense possibilities.
